Cricket: Kaikorai squeaks past Caris-Dunedin

Kaikorai 211 all out beat Carisbrook-Dunedin 205/6 by six runs

In a game which went down to the wire, Ian Robertson emerged as the hero for Kaikorai which squeaked home with a six-run victory over Carisbrook-Dunedin.

At 174 for four with five overs remaining chasing 211, Carisbrook-Dunedin was in a good position to push for the win, with both captain Brad Rodden (84) and Rhys Phillips (51) still in and looking strong.

But in a heartbeat both found themselves back in the changing rooms after two superb deliveries from Robertson turned the game in Kaikorai's favour.

Robertson was also the hero for his team with the bat notching up a very handy 72 runs off 74 balls to anchor the innings and post a winning total.

University-Grange 284/3 beat Albion 121/10 by 163 runs

University-Grange is hot on the tail of Kaikorai for the top spot in the Dunedin 50-over competition after a dominant victory over Albion on Saturday.

University-Grange smashed Albion by 163 runs after setting Albion 285 runs to win.

An opening partnership of 123 runs set the tone for the rest of University-Grange's innings, reaching 286 with only three wickets down.

Alistair Collie's top score of 86, combined with help from his team-mates who all made respectable scores, meant University-Grange posted a total which was always going to be hard to chase down.

Not content to let the batsmen have all the fun, Jason Hynes helped his team by bagging six wickets, conceding only 31 runs from his 10-over spell.

Albion never looked like it would reach the target, and only Dan Ford posted a score anywhere close to what was needed with a respectable 30 runs.

Green Island 86/3 beat Taieri 82 all out by 7 wickets

Green Island cruised to an easy win after a horrific batting collapse from Taieri. Nine of their batsmen were only able to score 25 runs among them.

It was the bowling pair of Blair Soper, with five wickets, and Russell Ritchie, with four, who took apart Taieri's batting line-up.

Soper opened his spell with a wicket on his first and second deliveries, and proved too good for the batsmen throughout, snapping up the last wicket of the innings.

The only bright spot for Taieri was opening batsman Ash Simpson who was able to grind out a respectable 40 runs off 75 balls.

It was a regulation run chase for Green Island which chased down the total in just 20 overs, with only three wickets falling.
