New Zealand A has been thumped in its opening match of their tour of India.

The Shane Bond coached side has lost by an innings and 31 runs in Vijayawada scoring 147 and 142 in their two innings.

India A made 320 in their only innings with middle order batsman Shreyas Iyer reaching 108.

Ish Sodhi was the pick of the New Zealand bowlers, taking 5-94 from 22 overs.

Opener George Worker scored 33 and 35 at the crease with very few standout performances with the bat for New Zealand.

Indian spinners Karn Sharma and Shahbaz Nadeem took 16 of the New Zealand 20 wickets between them.

Bond said his side looked out of their depth.

"It was a tough introduction. We came across a very disciplined and well organised team who were methodical in the way they went about their work and just too good for us in their own conditions."
