CDK 152 lost to University-Grange 154/5

University-Grange bowler Lahiru Vimukthi grabbed a five-wicket bag to help set up a healthy win over CDK at Logan Park on Saturday.

Shiv Achary (two for 27) secured the initial breakthroughs but it was Vimukthi who broke the 89-run stand between Will Jones (44) and Vinay Chandrappa (46).

Both got trapped in front and the innings fell away dramatically after that other than a quickfire 32 not out from No9 Navi Deol.

Vimukthi finished with five for 51. Zac Cumming bowled nicely as well with three for 19.

CDK’s total of 152 was perhaps 30 off a more defendable target.

Daniel Kibby anchored the chase with a patient undefeated 50, and Venkat Kotte (30) and Jacob Cumming (27) made solid contributions to the five-wicket win.

Taieri 242/9dec beat North East Valley 173

Taieri middle-order batter Nick Kwant clubbed 130 from 101 balls to help his side dispatch North East Valley by 69 runs at Brooklands.

Taieri were put into bat and were struggling at 28 for three.

But Kwant, who has played three T20s and one list A game for Otago, launched a powerful counterattack, swatting 12 sixes and six fours.

Beckham Wheeler-Greenall (27) and Tim Boyle (31) chipped in with some useful runs but Kwant scored more than 50% of the team’s runs.

Kaleb McKay (two for 16) and Hunter Kindley (three for 45) were the best of the Valley bowlers.

Kindley added 39 from 40 at the top of the innings for the Swans, and Jamie Grassi smashed seven fours and two sixes in a rapid knock of 46.

But the Swans lost regular wickets and were bundled out for 173.

Regan Flaws took three for 37 and Wheeler-Greenall nabbed two for 31.

Green Island 131 lost to Albion 132/3

Veteran Albion seamer Josh Cuttance snapped up four for 33 and an undefeated half-century from Jamal Todd helped the Eagles secure a seven-wicket win over Green Island at Sunnyvale.

Green Island were in trouble almost immediately. Tommy Clout bowled experienced opener Brad Kneebone for two and removed fellow opener Josh Kellett for 11.

Mason Clarke picked up two wickets as well.

But it was Cuttance who made sure there would be no substantial fightback.

He ran through the middle order of Joel Meade (24), Jack Mockford (29) and Jed Mockford (8). Green Island could muster only 131.

Albion’s chase went reasonably smoothly.

Teenager Hugo Bogue got out early. However, Lucky Singh (22), Taylor Cumberland (28) and Amak Ashok (16 not out) batted around Todd, who thumped 63 not out from 48 balls to help seal the win.
