The Wellington Phoenix have been guaranteed a spot in Australia's A-League football competition for the next five years.
Football Federation Australia (FFA) today confirmed the Phoenix's eligibility until at least the 2015-16 season, after their most successful A-League campaign when they made the preliminary final before losing to eventual champions Sydney FC.
New Zealand's only professional football club had their A-League future placed in doubt last November when Asian Football Confederation (AFC) president Mohamed bin Hammam said he did not support the Oceania Confederation club remaining in the A-League beyond 2011.
But a recent meeting between Hammam and Oceania president Reynald Temarii saw both confederation bosses agree the Phoenix's A-League license should be extended.
