Paul O'Reilly has been confirmed to continue in his role as Southern United head coach.

The club yesterday made the announcement the Irishman would return for a third season.

O'Reilly had initially been signed to a two-year deal, fitting with the two-year licence the club was granted in 2016.

That expired at the end of last season and, after reviewing its options, Football South decided to apply for a renewal.

After a disappointing first season, in which the team finished last, O'Reilly led the team to fifth in the national premiership last season.

That included six wins and six draws from 18 matches, something on which O'Reilly is keen to build.

``The 2017-2018 season was a massive success but it's crucial we see it as a platform to make further progress,'' O'Reilly said.

``Our expectations are to consolidate another top-six finish.

``We have obvious challenges as a club when it comes to budget, travel logistics and player population.

``But we'll be looking to consolidate that top-six placing while also looking to give ourselves a realistic shot at breaking into the top-four play-off places going into the final third of the season.''

He added the club held ``great potential'' and said the side was looking to add quality players from both inside and outside the region.
