Island Park and Chisholm Links began the day second and third respectively, and after finishing tied on 3-all at Chisholm Links on Saturday remain in the same positions.

The two teams receive one point each while St Clair Blue is the benefactor of the tie, gaining three points after beating its own Gold team 3½ to 2½ in the seventh round.

After a slow start, St Clair Blue is romping up the leader board. With 10 points and 21 games it is in fourth place, hard on the heels of the leading teams.

A clash with a provincial order of merit tournament at Lower Waitaki meant the match between Otago Blue and Gold teams has been deferred to a later date.

The match at Chisholm was always close and came down to sinking or missing putts on the final green.

Kyle Geary, Mark Collie and Jason Pegler all posted wins for the home team while Andrew Hobbs and Mike Wray won for Island Park.

The results came down to the match between No1 players Sean Geary and Michael Minty.

Minty was dormie two ahead but lost the 17th, which reduced his lead to one.

He also struggled on the final hole, missing the 12th green to the left taking two pitches from a difficult position to be on the green for four.

Chisholm looked set to win 4 to 2 but Minty calmly sank a 2m putt before Geary three-putted from the back apron.

At St Clair, Stephen Hitchcox and Chris Snow won for the Blue team while Cameron Botting and the experienced Tony Giles won for the Gold team.

Ross Colquhoun (St Clair Gold) looked set to win his first match of the series but Blue captain Michael Ormandy birdied the penultimate hole to get back to square.

The pair halved the final hole, leaving Colquhoun unbeaten with an incredible five halves for the series.

The outcome came down to the No6 players. Jakob Bleach was four up on Nathan Swift after 13 holes but Swift won four holes in a row and the pair went on to the deciding hole all square.

Bleach made a regulation 4 while Swift missed the green with his approach and failed to get up and down.
