Robb (68) has two grandchildren who live in the United Kingdom and is keen to travel with his wife, Helen, to see them more often.
''It has been difficult to travel when I have a fulltime position and I would also like to play more golf myself,'' Robb said.
He spent 42 years in the banking industry - the last nine as Otago and Southland regional manager for the BNZ.
From 1998 until 2003, Robb served on the Otago club's match committee and became the convener.
In 2003, he came in to help in the office on a voluntary basis for a few hours each week, and after two months he was spending 40 hours a week at Balmacewen.
''I took over more responsibility when the late Warren Lucas became unwell and in 2006 I was approached by the board to take on the manager's role fulltime.
''I have absolutely loved the job and, if I was younger, I would certainly not be giving it up.''
During Robb's tenure, the club has had some tumultuous times. It had debts of more than $500,000 eight years ago, but they were repaid in May last year and the club is now embarking on a capital fund-raising campaign.
Funds raised are to be used to upgrade the 44-year-old clubhouse and provide the greens staff with new machinery.
Robb praised the efforts of the board and staff for making his time as manager most enjoyable.
''We have improved communications with a weekly newsletter which has helped get members on board with debt repayment and many other projects.''
Robb is a very popular administrator and has looked after visitors and, in particular, the young Southland golfers who have played in Balmacewen tournaments during his tenure.
He will be a hard act to follow but there is considerable interest in the position, which was advertised last weekend.
