Savannah Neal provided the highlight for Otago on the second day of the New Zealand interprovincial at the Ashburton club yesterday.

The 16-year-old debutant claimed the only victory for the women in blue as Otago fell to a 4-1 loss to a classy Auckland team.

Neal (Futures Wakatipu), who got two wins in her provincial debut at the South Island interprovincial, followed her half in the opening match of the national tournament with a clutch win at No 5 in the order.

She beat talented Auckland youngster Nikkie Liu 1-up to ensure Otago claimed a point from the match.

Otherwise, it was tough going for Otago against one of the competition favourites.

No 1 Yoonae Jeong could not repeat her opening-day heroics as she fell to a 3 & 2 loss to Auckland star Emma Zheng.

Anahera Koni, Tracey Storer and Sophia Park were all comfortably beaten by Chloe So, Amy Tang and Queenie Lang respectively.

Otago play Canterbury this morning and Tasman this afternoon.

Auckland, North Harbour and Wellington are all a perfect three from three in the women’s competition.

Rain had the early say at the men’s interprovincial at the Manawatū club as the morning round was significantly delayed.

The Otago men promptly revelled in the conditions as they romped to a 5-0 whitewash of Auckland.

Ricky Kang, Troy Scott and 14-year-old Raphael Anderson all signed for 3 & 2 wins, Ben Patston continued his perfect start to the tournament with a 2-up victory, and Duncan Croudis sealed the deal with a 1-up nail-biter.

Victory took Otago, who had a win and a-half on day 1, to the top of the table.

The men were attempting to squeeze in a second match — Otago were taking on Tairawhiti — last night.
