Golf: Smail well-placed at Canon Open in Japan

New Zealand golfer David Smail is well placed for a tilt at winning the Canon Open on the Japan Tour after shooting a five-under par 67 in the third round at Totsuka Country Club in Yokohama.

The first round was cancelled due to typhoon conditions and after two rounds, Smail, who shot a 69 yesterday, is in a seven-way tie for third on 136, three shots behind the leader, Kenichii Kuboya.

Smail began his round today with a string of four birdies and added another on the 10th hole in a blemish-free performance.
