Inia Logan HA Bin Suh (Waitemata) and Brooke Hamilton (Hamilton) were the standout players in the South Island age-group championships which concluded in fine conditions on the Cromwell course yesterday.
Suh (14) won the overall boys prize with a 2-under 214. Hamilton (16) took the honours in the girls event with an impressive 8-under 208, including a course record of 67 on Thursday.
Suh also won the under-15 title while Brooke also achieved the double, adding the under-17 medal to her championship win.
Local star Inia Logan won the boys under-17 title with a 2-over aggregate and Zachary May (Russley) took under-13 honours.
Other girls to feature were Amelia Garvey (Kaiapoi), who took the under-15 medal, and Danielle Bailey (Invercargill), who won the under-13 event.
Otago had mixed results in the boys team events. The under-19 team finished third and the under-16 quintet won the event for the second time in the past three years.
A slow start put the under-19 team out of the winner's circle but the under-16 team led from start to finish and had to stave off a spirited challenge from Canterbury on the final two days.
The under-16 win was led by team captain Logan. No 4 Terry Kim overcame some troubled times to become the team's second-best scorer.
Along with Jacob Bleach, Ryan Whelan and Callum Judkins, the pair collected the gold medals after beating Canterbury by four shots.
