Otago to play for seventh-eighth after posting two wins

Canterbury finished top of pool A and will play pool B winner North Harbour in the final in Cambridge this morning.

Otago finished fourth in pool B and will play Taranaki to decide seventh and eighth.

Otago had two solid wins yesterday, downing Hawkes Bay 4-2 in the morning and nearly getting a clean sweep at the expense of Manawatu-Whanganui in the afternoon.

For Otago, No2 Jakob Bleach, NoJack Turner and No6 Hayden Robertson recorded two wins apiece.

No5 Joseph Hancock was also a two-match winner when Hawkes Bay’s Dylan Bagley withdrew due to illness in the morning and he notched an impressive 7 and 6 win in the afternoon.

For the first time during the event, the Otago players did not rest on their laurels and punched home early advantages to secure wins.

The 72 junior golfers in the field had a severe birdie problem with nesting magpies dive-bombing the competitors around the third and fifth fairways.
