Otago bagged two wins from two matches yesterday, surviving a wet and mucky day in Auckland at the national provincial companionships.

The side beat Aorangi 3-2 in the morning and beat Northland by the same score in the afternoon on the Whitford Park course.

The championships were played in pouring rain in the morning and some of the afternoon and it made the going tough.

Against Northland the weather cleared slightly.

The match went down to the wire before Otago No5 Duncan Croudis made a clutch putt on the final hole to win 1-up

No3 Callum Judkins and No4 Jacob Bellamy also hit crucial putts on the final hole to square their matches.

No2 Brandon Hodgson lost his match 2-up but No1 Inia Logan was untroubled to beat Kadin Neha 4 and 3. Play did not finish until after 7.30pm.

The course played well and Otago is now second in its pool and has had the bye.

Frontrunner Taranaki halved its game yesterday afternoon to be pulled back to the pack.

It was a long, tough duel with Aorangi in the morning. Play was delayed for an hour because of the weather and, when it got going, there was not much between the two teams.

Croudis led the team out and had a tough match with Jeff Hewitt before winning 2 and 1.

Otago No4 Bellamy had a solid 1-up win over the experienced Daniel Perham.

Play was suspended near the end because of the wet conditions.

Otago No3 could not keep in touch with Tim Leonard and lost 5 and 4 while No2 Hodgson lost to Josh Smith 2 and 1.

It came down to the battle of the No1 players Logan and Cameron Grant, Logan coming out on top 3 and 1.

Otago will play Tasman this morning before all teams have a break this afternoon.
