Honours to Egli, Gavoille

Brandon Egli and Benjamin Gavoille were the big winners at the Dunedin Thunder awards night.

Egli was named most valuable player and Gavoille was the recipient of the Andre Robichaud leadership award. Egli scored 10 goals and had 17 assists during the season, including the winning goal which enabled the side to claim the Toa Kauhanga Riri Toa trophy for the first time.

The Canadian also won the best defenceman award.

He is heading to Sweden on a professional contract, although is set to return to the Thunder for next season. Gavoille was presented with the leadership award, in recognition his presence and motivating influence in the team.

The award for best forward  went to Charlie Plaisir, and that of most improved player went to Max Hurring.

Joe Orr won the fan favourite award, while Paris Heyd was the topped the goal-scoring and assists lists with 15 and 21.

It was also confirmed Jeff Avery will return as  head coach  next year. Peter Hurring and Sharon and Graeme Darling will return as part of the management team.
