The 35-year-old has replaced former coach Nicola Jones, who decided to step down for family reasons.
A Southern club stalwart, Tasi-Cordtz has worked closely with former Rebels and Otago coach Georgie Salter for more than 10 years and also lists former Silver Ferns coach and Netball New Zealand president Lois Muir as one of her mentors.
"We are fortunate in Otago to have such fantastic coaches," Tasi-Cordtz said, adding they had been instrumental in her development.
Tasi-Cordtz has a solid playing background, having represented Otago at age-group level.
She still plays club netball for Southern but took up coaching when she was just 24.
She was Salter's assistant coach "about six years ago" and also spent a year helping Muir when she led the Rebels.
She was head coach of Otago Under-21 for four years and in her last year (2006) guided Otago to the finals.
"We lost by one to Waikato," she lamented.
She stepped away from coaching for three years to manage her young family.
She has two young children - Christmas babies, both of them.
Taitelea turns four tomorrow and Teuila celebrates her birthday on December 28.
Now her family is a little older she feels ready to take on a coaching role again.
And that loss to Waikato still niggles the feisty competitor.
"I'm so competitive it's not funny.
"People ask me what I want to achieve with Otago.
"Well, I want to win a national championship."
Tasi-Cordtz is ambitious about her coaching career but she also has a lot on her plate.
She is a teacher at High Street School and is shifting to Balmacewen Intermediate School next year.
"I'm keen to go up to that next level but when is a big question."
Right now she is focused on lifting Otago.
The province finished third in 2007, third in 2008 and fourth this year.
Commendable results but Tasi-Cordtz is passionate about Otago netball and wants to see it on top.
One of the biggest challenges is moulding the transient student population, who have traditionally formed the core of the Otago teams, into a cohesive unit.
But there is also experience with the likes of former Silver Ferns shooters Jo Morrison and Jodi Brown in the side.
