Warmer weather and more netball await Lenize Potgieter.

The Southern Steel goal shoot has confirmed she is set to join the Queensland Firebirds.

She will link with the Australian Super Netball franchise following next Friday's Steel awards evening.

An email from the team arrived in the South African international's inbox a week ago, asking if she was interested in joining.

Potgieter admitted it was "quite a big shock'', but was looking forward to the opportunity - although is clear her focus remains on the Steel.

"I didn't even think they would look at me. They are the Firebirds and they're a team that hasn't changed that much in forever,'' she said.

"So when they contacted me I was like `is this a prank? It's a very mean prank'. They just sent me an email and asked if I'm available and what my thoughts are. I spoke to my parents and my agent to get their thoughts.

"I also spoke to Curly [Steel coach Reinga Bloxham] and the decision was made that after the finals I'll go over and join up over there.''

The Firebirds will hope the 25-year-old can help jump-start their season.

After five rounds they remain searching for a win and have been hit by injury.

Young shooter Tippah Dwan has yet to play, while Jamaican Romelda Aiken missed last week's game with a bone stress leg injury.

That left it to start training partner Amy Somerville and call in Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic shooter Abigail Latu-Meafou last Sunday. They partnered goal attack Gretel Tippett.

Potgieter has scored 557 goals at 90% and her quick, low shot is difficult to defend.

The move would be important preparation heading into July's World Cup, at which she will represent South Africa.

It would allow her to get a taste of the Australian, England and Jamaican defenders before the tournament.

"I'm quite excited to play against different styles now.

"So hopefully I'm going to add to my toolbox when I get over there and improve my game even further.

"I've had the chance to do it for three years in New Zealand and I haven't looked back since, so now I'm going to try to go even further.''

She was unsure whether she would be back for the Steel next year, preferring to take things one day at a time and not having anything set for next year yet.

The Super Netball season finishes in September, taking a break for the World Cup.

The Tactix announced yesterday midcourter Kimiora Poi will play for the Collingwood Magpies for the rest of the season.
