Reinga Te Huia has kept her job as the Southern Steel assistant coach.

Te Huia will work under new Steel coach Noeline Taurua, who was named as Janine Southby's replacement on Sunday.

She is a former Southern Sting player, and initially joined the Steel franchise in 2013 as a defensive specialist.

Te Huia was promoted to assistant coach the past two seasons under Southby, who is now the Silver Ferns coach.

"I'm really looking forward to it,'' Te Huia said in a statement.

"With the players that we have and Noeline coming into the mix, it's going to be great as we continue to move forward.

"Last season we lacked a little bit of consistency, but now with another year under our belts, it's time to deliver out on court.''

The Steel had been in imbo after Southby was named Silver Ferns coach early last month, but Netball South chief executive Lana Winders has moved quickly to ensure a new coaching group is in place before Christmas.

"I'm really excited for [Te Huia] to come off the back of two years working alongside Janine and now have the opportunity to join forces with Noeline Taurua, the best-performing Kiwi coach in ANZ Championship history,'' she said.

The Steel will assemble to prepare for next year's ANZ Championship in late January.
