Dodgers and Cardinals each bagged a pair of wins to keep setting the pace in the premier competition on Saturday.

Dodgers, missing ace pitcher Ben Watts on national fastpitch duty, beat Ellis Park 8-4 and Saints 7-6, while Cardinals beat Saints 9-2 and Ellis Park 6-1.

The tightest finish of the day was in the Dodgers-Saints clash. Dodgers led most of the way and a two-RBI home run from Cam Watts highlighted the third inning.

Kurt Paiaaua brought two runners home in the top of the seventh to give Saints the lead, before Nelson Yorston cracked a hit to centre field to bring in two Dodgers runners and tie up the game in the bottom of the seventh.

It was something of an anticlimax when a fielding error allowed Yorston to cross the plate for the winning run.

Cam Watts and Jake Burtenshaw hit doubles for Dodgers in the win over Ellis Park. Ryan Williams whacked a solo homer in the fourth for Ellis Park.

Grant Phillips fired a home run for Cardinals in the bottom of the third inning against Saints, and both Mitchell Finnie and Hamish Lewis laid down perfect bunts to keep the bases moving.

A rather depleted Saints was forced to register three new players just to complete a full line-up.

Cardinals batter Richard Clark hit a triple in the fifth inning, his side's only multiple base hit, in the win over Ellis Park.

Ellis Park's best inning of the game was the sixth, with Williams, Gary Pointon and Will Meiklejohn all getting on base but failing to score.
