Anthony Butt, the West Melton horseman, has been engaged to drive George W and Enough's Enuff at Menangle tonight.

Butt is spending a few days in Sydney with his son, Chris, now training at Menangle. Chris was based in Perth until three months ago.

Enough's Enuff and George W are trained by Chris.

Members of the Anthony Butt stable, Mac The Finn and Vulcan, won at the Rangiora trials yesterday and Mah Sish ran Mister Presley to half a neck in the main heat.

Mac Finn, who finished third in February in his only start, won a trial at Ashburton last week.

Vulcan has not raced since March. He won the Dominion Handicap, New Zealand Trotting Free-For-All and V.L. Dullard Cup at Melton last season.

Mah Sish is due to resume racing in the Hannon Memorial Free-For-All at Oamaru on September 16 as a lead-up to the New Zealand Cup. He joined the Butt stable in December after changing ownership. He had won seven races when trained by Dean Taylor.

The Mach Three gelding subsequently won the Hororata Cup at Addington and another race on the same track and placed in five of his nine starts. He has not raced since finishing fourth in the Easter Cup won by Hands Christian.

Mister Presley, who has not raced since March, has also been entered for the New Zealand Cup on November 13.

• Franco Emirate, a New Zealand Cup entrant, won a workout at Motukarara on Saturday in 3.22.9 for 2600m, the last 800m in 55.9 after starting from 30m.

Ohoka Texas won over 2200m (mobile) in 2.47.1 and 55.9. He won by a length and a-half from Sleepy Tripp.

• Matthew Williamson has been engaged to drive Wot The Owl, who is in a race for junior drivers with a claiming tag of $3500 at Forbury Park on Thursday night.

Wot The Owl was claimed for that price by Tom Kilkelly at his last start. Wot The Owl has won five of his last nine starts with four different drivers.

• The Ashburton Trotting Club has switched from racing on Monday, June 3, to the previous day. The club is scheduled to stage the Harness Jewels meeting on Saturday, June 1. The club wishes to provide a compact two-day meeting for patrons.

• Tony Herlihy has been engaged to drive Gold Ace, who is being aimed at the New Zealand Cup at Addington in November, Michael Guerin, of The New Zealand Herald, reports.

Herlihy has replaced Peter Ferguson, who is on the sideline after further surgery to a thumb he broke in a training accident last year. Ferguson has been out of action since the surgery on July 24. He is not expected to resume race driving until October, when Gold Ace will have returned to racing.

Gold Ace, trained at Pukekohe by Steven Reid, has won 14 races and $787,800, mainly in the hands of Ferguson.

Gold Ace has not raced since he finished second to Mustang Mach in the New Zealand Messenger in May. The Bettor's Delight entire won the Superstars Championship at Addington in March when New Zealand Cup winner Terror To Love finished second. Herlihy has won the NZ Cup driving Luxury Liner (1988), Christopher Vance (1991) and Chokin (1993).
