Emily Trimbole missed the start over 1100m and settled last and nine lengths from the leader. She came from last in the seven-horse field at the 350m to win by a length and a-quarter, outfinishing Keen Affair, the winner of her last three starts.
Emily Trimbole is the fourth winner from as many foals to race out of Greta's Way. She is the first winner by her sire Saperavi.
Emily Trimbole is from the first crop of Saperavi, a half-brother by Stravinsky to Darci Brahma, the sire of Artistic, winner of the New Zealand Oaks last Saturday from his first crop. Saperavi raced four times for a win and two stakes placings at 3.
He stands at the Willow Glen stud at Waimate operated by Mike and Barbara Cooney.
Emily Trimbole is a half-sister to Harry Trimbole (now in Australia), Mr Trimbole and Richard Trimbole. She is trained by Noel Graham, who has prepared her half-brothers.
He also bred the filly and he is among some 25 people who race the Emily Trimbole.
Ralph Manning, the trainer of Keen Affair, said the colt would now return to Cambridge for a spell.
• Members of High Jinks syndicate who race High Jinks dedicated the win yesterday to Palmerston syndicate member Russell Sutherland, who is seriously ill in Dunedin Hospital.
High Jinks came from last at the 700m to win over 2070m. It was the second win for the half-sister by High Chaparral to Ric O'Shea raced on lease from Palmerston breeder Andy Denham. He races Ric O'Shea, who is being spelled after four wins in seven starts this season.
