But the two strong miles and a very quick 2200m might have been a secret weapon for Thursday's 1700m sprint that turned into a real battle.
RR Sand Dollar went forward from her wide draw and poured the pressure on Scarlett Banner right to the home straight.
RR Sand Dollar fought on, but was bombed up the passing lane by the Clark Barron-trained Rakarazor in a quick time of 2.03.0 for the 1700m.
Owner Brendan Fahy has been impressed by the filly's improvement this season, even if she had to settle for minor placings in her previous six starts.
"She's gone great races and just improved,'' Fahy said.
"As a 2yr-old she had no speed and now she just flies.''
"If you don't front up, you can't win, so we thought we'd have a crack,'' Fahy said.
Barron backed right off the daughter of Rocknroll Hanover this week, considering her effort last weekend.
"She was a bit jaded after Winton, but I tried a brave move and freshened her right up this week and did not do a lot and the 1700m suited.''
Barron was in the sulky on Thursday night, but said another driver deserved a much of the credit for her constant improvement.
"Big thanks to Brent Barclay who has been driving her and I'll be honest, I had been struggling to get her to the line. Why? I don't know, being fillies they're a bit different. So he's done a huge job and given her confidence and we got the result today.''
So is the $150,000 Nevele R Final at Addington on May 14 on the radar, now that the filly has qualified?
"I dare say,'' Fahy said.
