Gatewood backing up in Lexus Stakes

Gatewood, winner of the Geelong Cup, will back up in the $200,000 Lexus Stakes (2500m) this Saturday, the race offering a Melbourne Cup ballot exemption to the winner.

Glen Boss has replaced Corey Brown as the rider.

Gatewood is 33rd in entry order with 52.5kg for the 24-horse Melbourne Cup field.

• Owner Lloyd Williams is weighing up his options with Green Moon, who is among the second declarations for the Melbourne Cup.

Green Moon finished seventh in the Cox Plate after a rocky run. Williams and trainer Robert Hickmott are also represented in the Melbourne Cup second declarations by Excluded, Mourayan and Tanby.
