Colin Keen was remembered at last night's meeting in the name of the one of the trotting races, won by Eyrewell Pegasus. He was a passionate racing enthusiast who spent time on the Forbury Park committee from the mid-1990s and also served on the committee and as president of the Otago Greyhound Racing Club.
Keen died on April 18 following heart surgery, a week short of his 71st birthday, while still a serving committee member.
Fellow committee member and Mosgiel trainer Martin Denton produced Missy Mach to win her maiden event.
It's been a steady process for Denton with the daughter of Mach Three, but he feels the best is yet to come.
''She'll be a nice mare next season if you look at her frame,'' he said.
Denton handed her to Westwood Beach trainer and Forbury Park committee member Graeme Anderson for her early 3yr-old campaign late last year, before the filly came back to Denton's property.
''She really developed after she came back from Graeme's and we turned her out for three months.''
Denton and co-owner and breeder Garry Clarke bought Missy Mach's dam, Janet Blue Chip, a half-sister to cup-class pacer Jack Cade, in 2005 and have bred three times from the Smooth Fella mare.
Anderson featured in his own right when Flyin Armalight waltzed away with the fillies and mares 1700m maiden, although he has to have his wits about him when dealing with the 4yr-old Sands A Flyin mare.
''She came here insane, and now she's only slightly mad,'' Anderson said.
Despite her mental challenges, Anderson is pleased to have the half-sister to No Courage Russell in his care and she will be aimed at the Golden Girls series, starting at Ascot Park on May 18.
Ballindooley just keeps on making giant pacing strides in his career with Anderson and Hoffman, setting a track record for the 2200m mobile last night.
After Jonny Cox cleverly avoided an early speed duel between Delightful Song and Royal Impression, Cox sent the Sands A Flyin gelding to the lead with 1200m to go and held on in a time of 2.39.8, eclipsing the previous record set by Lionels Meddle in 2010 by 0.1sec.
''[Jonny's] going great for us - it's a hard job taking over from Dexter [Dunn] but he's really slotted into the zone now,'' Anderson said.
Ballindooley's win was particularly poignant for Anderson, as his mother, Margaret, died yesterday morning. She toiled behind the scenes when members of the Essemdee Syndicate - who race Ballindooley - played cricket together.
A trip away is probably necessary now Ballindooley is a seven-win horse.
''We don't want to do too much with him, but if we want another race with him [before the Harness Jewels] we'll probably need to go to Christchurch.''
