Harness racing sensation Dexter Dunn broke his own national record for number of winning drives in a season with a double at Ashburton today.
The wins by Kristina and JB Maguire took Dunn's total for the season to 205, one better than he achieved two seasons ago when he became the first driver to reach the 200 milestone.
Dunn, 21, missed out on Jewels day at Ashburton on Saturday, but still reached his target with almost eight weeks still left before the end of the season.
He has won the past three drivers' premierships.
Meanwhile, Dunn's whiz kid thoroughbred counterpart, James McDonald, is only one win away from equalling Lisa Cropp's national record for a wins by a jockey in a season.
Cropp had 197 wins in the 2004-05 season and McDonald homed in on that with a treble at Foxton today - aboard Balatro, Smoking Chimneys and Leonucusam.
Barring accidents, McDonald, 19, should become the first jockey to reach 200 in the next week or so, given his current strike rate.
He won his first group one win in Australia on Saturday, aboard Scarlett Lady in the Queensland Oaks.
