Racing: Inferno satisfies Kelso

Inferno is capable of a bold showing in the listed open 2000m at Matamata today.

She was sent to the Matamata stable of Ken and Bev Kelso a fortnight ago by North Taieri owners Brian and Lorraine Anderton.

"She has settled in well and worked nicely on Tuesday," Ken Kelso said last night.

Inferno made ground for seventh in the White Robe Lodge Handicap (1600m) at Wingatui at her last start. She won the Canterbury Gold Cup (2000m) at weight-for-age on a slow track at Riccarton last April.

O'Cartier was scratched at Riccarton yesterday through a minor foot injury which is not expected to prevent him attempting the Lightning Handicap at Trentham for the fifth time at Trentham on March 17.

O'Cartier ran a toe clip into a hind foot after he twisted a plate.

"He should be right in a few days and he has been set for the Lightning Handicap," Karen Parsons, his co-trainer, said.

The 8yr-old, winner of 16 races, finished second to Keep The Conflict at Wingatui at his last start.

O'Cartier won the Lightning Handicap (1200m) last year under 58kg. He also won the race in 2008 and finished second in 2009 and third in 2010.

The Parsons-trained London Dream and Horsewifnoname were declared late scratchings from race 1 yesterday. They were eased after the start when their riders heard a false start siren sound. Stewards confirmed that the siren did sound but that other riders continued in the race. The Judicial Control Authority deemed the result would stand.

The Hamilton apprentice, Rory Hutchings, brought up his 50th win when Consummate prevailed in race 5.

Eagle Rock was lame in her left front knee after a win in race 9.

Premier Lady was galloped on in race 8.
