Steven Anderton's well-travelled mares are enjoying the warmth at Karaka ahead of their Pukekohe debut today.

The Solitaire and The Glitzy One will carry 59kg and 58kg respectively in the $25,000 open 1600m at the clockwise track, but Anderton said they had thrived in their temporary home at the Byerley Park training establishment used by more than a dozen trainers.

''They had a gallop on Tuesday and they worked good,'' Anderton said.

''They're actually looking really bright. With the heat up here, they're really thriving.''

The pair are stabled with Shane Hapeta, and Anderton said training from the complex was very convenient.

''It's a great setup. They go out the stable door, about 200m down a lane and they're straight on the track.''

Anderton is not sure what to expect from the pair tomorrow. The Solitaire has drawn barrier 2 and will have Trudy Thornton on board, while The Glitzy One has drawn slightly wider at 12 and will be ridden by Derek Nolan.

''It's hard to gauge tomorrow because they're going the other way around and they've got to get used to that under race pressure. They're both carrying top weight and they haven't had a race for a little bit.

''I don't see them as winning chances, but as long as they find the line, I'll be happy.''

The mile is more suited to The Solitaire, but Anderton will not be surprised to see The Glitzy One hitting the line strongly.

''I think she'll go a really nice race fresh up,'' he said.

''She's the one that's really thrived more out of the two, whereas the other mare took a few extra days to settle in but she's good now.

''It'll give us a line on where we're at and as long as they pull up all right, they'll press on to other things.''

For The Solitaire, that means a crack at the group 1 International Stakes at Te Rapa on February 8, while Anderton has pencilled in an open 2000m at Te Rapa on February 1 for The Glitzy One.
