Riverton apprentice jockey Rebecca Black was treating Wingatui like her home track yesterday, even if the Riverton club's meeting had been moved more than 200km away.

Black steered home three winners on the card, starting things off with Dame La Jane in the opening race on the card before saluting on Heart Of Hearts for Tapanui trainers Nikki and Barrie Blatch.

But her favourite win of the day was clearly Saragarhi - and for good reason.

Saragarhi is trained by Black's partner, Kelvin Tyler, at Riverton, the rating 85 2200m was sponsored by life members of the Riverton club, and she just loves the gutsy little son of Spartacus who now has three wins from his 17 starts.

''I love the horse,'' Black said.

''Michael [Tyler], who part-owns him, is Kelvin's son, and [Saragarhi] is just a pet.

''He's one of those little horses who is kind, gentle, loves people and tries his hardest.''

Being a staunch Riverton local, Black was disappointed about the club having to abandon its meeting on Monday, but acknowledged the part fate played in yesterday's three wins.

''It's a shame we've had to come here but without this rain, the consequences of winning here may not have been the same.''

Black also won the trophy for leading apprentice over the two-day Easter Carnival, winning four over the two days, starting with Keep The Courage on Saturday.

Black had won 19 races over her stop-start career before yesterday, including a double on the day she rode Minolta to her first riding win on the second day of the Riverton meeting in April 1994.

Heart Of Hearts was having her second start for Tapanui trainers Nikki and Barrie Blatch after they acquired the Lion Heart filly from the stables of Stephen McKee.

The 3yr-old had two starts for McKee before being sent south, and the rain worked out well on two fronts.

''We were just waiting for a bit of easing in the track,'' Barrie Blatch said.

The abandonment of the Easter Monday meeting at Riverton had worked in the Blatches' favour, as they had scratched Heart Of Hearts before Monday's meeting was abandoned.

''It didn't worry us at all,'' he said, chuckling.
