Comply Or Die led throughout and won by five and a-half lengths. He had finished third at Omakau last Monday when having his first start.
Trainer Ken Barron said he would now give Comply Or Die a few days off.
Comply Or Die is raced by breeders Brian Leonard, of Timaru, and Doug Gillespie, of Geraldine, with Russell Aitkenhead and Gus Cuthbertson, of Nelson.
Messrs Leonard, Gillespie and Cuthbertson won six races with Itsa Trick, a half-sister to Mood Indigo, the dam of Comply Or Die (by Live Or Die). Comply Or Die is the second foal of Mood Indigo, a Caprock mare who was given to Leonard by the late Tony Maxwell, of Alexandra.
Mood Indigo was minor-placed in 11 starts.
She is also a half-sister to OK Toddy, the winner of five races when trained by Barron, and a 1.54.2 miler.
• Glencoe V C took 2.2sec off the track record for 2600m with a dashing win in the Cromwell Cup. His time of 3.20.8 bettered the mark set by Waihemo Cullen in the 2008 race.
It was the sixth win for Glencoe V C in eight starts. Glencoe V C, trained by Brendon McLellan at Wyndham, was having his first race for eight weeks.
Robbie McDonald, the Owaka part-owner and breeder of Glencoe V C, trained and drove the pacer Toll Booth to win on the Cromwell track in 1964.
McDonald races Glencoe V C with his daughters Katherine Dodds, of Wyndham, and Christine Mitchell, of Tahakopa.
Glencoe V C will now contest the $50,000 Northern Southland Cup on Thursday.
• Kaka Point Christy, who is in foal to Washington VC, had set a track record of 2.15.2 (2.00.9 mile rate) for 1800m (mobile) in race 4 yesterday. She lowered the mark of 2.15.3 set by Holme Grown in 2008.
Trainer Alex Milne said Kaka Point Christy may have one further start before she is retired. The daughter of Courage Under Fire and Kaka Point Kylie won two races for breeders Karen Milne (wife of the trainer) and Jean Bloxham, of Port Molyneux.
• Ready Set lowered the track record for a trotter over 2600m by 1.7sec when she won in 3.26.8.
She bettered the mark set by Son Of Iris in 2008.
The Nigel McGrath-trained Ready Set, will race next at the Northern Southland meeting on Thursday.
Whekau, trained by Dan Cummings, set a track record for a 3yr-old filly with her win in 2.16.2.
• Regan Todd did his parents, Barry and Pam proud when he drove Jellignite to lead over the last 1100m. His father, Barry, is president of the Wyndham club which staged the meeting yesterday.
• Peterhof, a close relative of well-performed Quality Invasion, won a maiden trot yesterday at his second start.
Peterhof is owned and trained by his Charing Cross breeder Bruce Graham, who prepares Quality Invasion (eight wins).
Peterhof is a 5yr-old by Peruvian Hanover from Go Product and the second foal of his dam.
Go Product, who raced as a trotter and pacer, won as a trotter on grass at Motukarara.
She is by Chiola Hanover from Mulocs, a half-sister by Alias Armbro to Quality Product, the dam of Quality Invasion.
Peterhof was tried as a pacer until 12 months ago.
• Double El confirmed the promise he has shown at trials with a win at his second start.
He is trained by Robbie Holmes for Omihi breeder Jo Higginson, who races the 4yr-old with Carla Robertson-Holmes and her parents Ken and Carole Robertson, of Ocean View. Double El is the fourth winner left by El Som, who is also the dam of Famous Deal (1.52.6). Higginson is a sister of Caroline Whitelock, who has had success as a breeder and owner of standardbreds in partnership with her husband Braeden.
Mesdames Higginson and Whitelock are both daughters of Nelson Dalzell, who bred and raced pacers including Diamond Moose and Moose.
• Undue Risk had her second win in six starts yesterday since joining the Roxburgh stable of Geoff and Judy Knight. The half-sister to Raglan, raced by Rangiora breeders Robyn and Geraldine Wilson, had won at Forbury Park in November soon after transferring from a Canterbury stable. Raglan is now in Melbourne with other members of the Tim Butt stable.
Steven McRae collected the $4000 prize as the leading trainer at the Omakau, Roxburgh and Cromwell meetings over the past week. Phil Williamson received $1500 as runner-up and Murray Brown $500 for third place. McRae amassed 20 points, Williamson 18 and Brown 15.
