Racing: Win first time in sulky

Jonny Cox had his first sit in the sulky behind Goodtobebad at Forbury Park last night and it proved to be a winning one.

The Sundon gelding was a recent arrival to Cox and Amber Hoffman's Westwood Beach team after starting his career in Cambridge, where he qualified, and latterly Canterbury.

''It's only been down here for a couple of weeks,'' Cox explained.

''We were meant to go to the workouts last week but we missed it, so everything's been on the beach.

''This is the first time I've driven him. Amber's done all the work with him.''

Cox had to complete another lap after winning the 2200m trot, which bodes well for Goodtobebad's future assignments.

''I didn't get the hood off until after the line and when I got it off, he took off. Hopefully, that's a good sign further down the track.''

''There seem to be a lot of c1-only trots now - that will suit him. He's probably still learning the game. It's not always the best to win first-up but when it's there, you've got to take it.''

Cox and Hoffman prepare the 4yr-old for Stephen and Jo Blair, who have raced Platinum Princess with some success out of Cox and Hoffman's stable this season.

Goodtobebad is the ninth of 10 foals out of Gee Whiz II mare Miss Cadenza, and is the first to collect a win after three others qualified and failed to give their drivers the chance to salute the judge.
