Hamish Bond claimed his second award in as many days on Saturday.

The double Olympic gold medallist won the rower of the year award at the Otago rowing awards on Saturday night.

It came just a day after winning the supreme award at the Otago sports awards.

Bond, who rowed at the Rio Games in the men's pair with Eric Murray, beat youngsters Bradley Leydon, Mark Taylor and brother Alistair for the honour.

It was one of three awards Leydon for which was nominated and the John McGlashan College pupil was successful in claiming male school rower of the year.

Clora Quinlan-Thompson, of Columba College, won female school rower of the year.

Otago University's Hannah Duggan edged Leydon for club rower of the year, while Hannah Kennedy, also of Otago University won coxswain of the year.

The Oamaru Rowing Club's under-19 double sculls crew of Jared Bresnall and James Scott was awarded crew of the year, fighting off six other nominees.

St Hilda's collegiate novice double sculls duo Sophie Sinclair and Olivia Whelan-Henderson won the novice crew of the year, while North End's Kelvin Maker won masters rower of the year.

The Otago Rowing Club's Michael Goldsmith won coach of the year, and Lauren Farnden was administrator/official of the year.
