Discarded Highlanders prop Josh Iosefa-Scott has landed a dream move to European and English champion Exeter Chiefs.

Iosefa-Scott is already in England, although he will not play for the side until next season. The English and European seasons will come to a climax next month.

The 24-year-old never made much of an impression with the Highlanders.

He was signed for the 2019 and 2020 seasons after impressing for Waikato in 2018 when the side won the Championship division of the Mitre 10 Cup.

But he never made any progress at the Highlanders, earning just two caps for the side in two seasons.

He came on as a substitute against the Rebels in Melbourne in 2019 and a year later came on in the side’s opening game against the Sharks. The Highlanders lost both games.

He ended up playing more than 20 games for the Taieri premiership team, which won the club title last year.

His weakness was believed to be centred around the scrum and a lack of ability to hold up his own side.

He played every game for Waikato last year.

At 135kg and 1.93m, Iosefa-Scott certainly has the physical attributes to make an impression. He also qualifies as a local player through family.

Chiefs director of rugby Rob Baxter said although Iosefa-Scott was not a frontliner he could bring something to the squad.

The club has a history of getting players from the Championship level and then developing them into top players.

The tighthead prop will be working hard over the next few months to improve his game and be ready for next season.

Iosefa-Scott said said it was good to get to England early and hehoped to hit the ground running.

Meanwhile, Welsh club Ospreys has confirmed the signing of Otago and Highlanders lock Jack Regan for a two-year deal.

He is no longer with the Highlanders and will not be playing for his Dunedin club any more.

Irishman Regan came to Dunedin just before lockdown last year to play for Dunedin.

He ended up playing so well he played for Otago and then joined the Highlanders as injury cover. He started the first two games for the Highlanders this year.
