The Highlanders have won their final pre-season game with a 40-35 victory over the Waratahs in Queenstown tonight.

As the score suggested it was a close run thing with the teams seeming to trade tries all game. A Hayden Parker penalty with less than five minutes left clinched the game for the Highlanders.

Centre Malakai Fekitoa scored three tries for the Highlanders, while former All Black Zac Guildford got one for his new side.

Highlanders 40 (Malakai Fekitoa 3, Ben Smith 2 tries; Lima Sopoaga 3 con, 2 pen; Hayden Parker pen), Waratahs 35 (Michael Hooper, Rob Horne,
Tatafu Polota-Nau, Bryce Hegarty, Zac Guildford tries; Kurtkey Beale 5 con).
