Halfback Kurt Hammer played an outstanding game of wet weather rugby to help Taieri beat Green Island 48-10 in Dunedin premier club rugby at Miller Park today.

Taieri have retained its two point lead at the top of the points table with 59 points and is followed by Dunedin 57, Southern 45, University A 44 and Kaikorai 40.

It was a polished display by a well drilled Taieri team that scored seven tries and never let Green Island into the game.

Dunedin scored one of the best wet weather tries seen for a long time when they beat Kaikorai 29-13 at Bishopscourt.

It was begun by first five-eighth Trent Renata inside his own 22m. He kicked ahead twice and flying wing Rowan McKenzie was up quickly to score the try.

Alhambra-Union caused the upset of the day when they beat Southern 27-26 at Bathgate Park. Peter Breen scored two tries and kicked three goals to score 17 of Alhambra-Union's points.

The scores were: Taieri 48, Green Island 10; Dunedin 29, Kaikorai 13; Alhambra-Union 27, Southern 26; Pirates 15, Harbour 13; University A 15, Zingari-Richmond 12.
