Rugby: Lawrence see off Heriot challenge

In the closest result of the day, Lawrence held off a spirited Heriot XV to win by 28-24, after Lawrence had led 18-12 at halftime.

Lawrence picked up four points, but Heriot scored two bonus points, to keep its chances alive in its battle for fourth spot with Crescent.

For Lawrence, Stu and Ben Young gave strong forward efforts, along with James Brennan. In the backs, James Kenny and Sam Young played well.

First five Lance Taylor became the first player in Otago to score 200 points in this club season. He kicked three penalties and two conversions for a total of 13 points and now has a total of 209 points.

For Heriot, Mark McHutcheon was the pick of the backs, with two good tries and moves his tally to 11 for the season, despite missing six weeks in mid-season overseas.

Kyle Sterry and Jordan Purcell were other to show out in the backs. In the forwards, Quentin Brennsell, Grant Anderson and Craig Stanaway had strong games.
