Former Otago assistant coach David Latta and former Otago B coach Mike Moeahu will not have representative coaching jobs this season.

Former Otago players Brett McCormack and Brendon Timmins have been selected to coach Otago B while Russell Lundy, Tim Colling and Phil Young will coach the Otago Colts.

The teams have shortened programmes this year because of the World Cup.

Latta had weighed up all the options and had decided not to stand for a job.

With the amount of travel involved and the short season he felt it was better to give coaching a miss this season.

He still wanted to be involved in the Otago set-up but was not upset he was not going to be involved this season.

Latta was dumped after one year of being the assistant coach of the Otago ITM Cup team last year, and was told he needed to work on certain aspects of his coaching.

Moeahu had fashioned an outstanding record with the Otago B side last year, as it won all its nine games and the South Island representative competition. He had coached the side with Andy Hunter, who had been promoted to co-coach with Phil Mooney of the ITM Cup side.

But Moeahu has been overlooked for McCormack and Timmins.

Moeahu said he was naturally disappointed to not continue in the job but just wanted to get on with other things. He was not coaching any other team.

He declined further comment.

Otago Rugby Football Union general manager Richard Reid said the union decided to rotate coaches around. Moeahu had been offered a younger team to coach but had declined.

There were plenty of quality candidates for only a few jobs and he said unfortunately someone had to miss out.

Former Otago Country coach Marty Hurring had sought the Otago Colts job and when he did not get it he declined to seek another position, Reid said.

With the World Cup starting in early September the season was very short and teams would play only four to five games.

Former All Black Paul Miller will be coaching the Otago under-19 side with King's High School First XV coach Darryl Paterson.

Southern co-coach Tim Belcher will coach the Otago Spirit side.
