The Old Boys side has not had it all its own way over that period and has been run close in a couple of finals.
But when it matters, the Old Boys side has got over the line and it won the Citizens Shield for the fifth time in a row last year.
It has experienced its usual degree of player losses but still has the bulk of its squad together for this season.
Midfielder Lemi Masoe, who is moving into the veteran category these days, will lead the backline and he will be hard to stop.
Up front, Ralph Darling will again be to the fore and he will be ably backed up by big locks Sale Pi'i and Paea Ala, while there is plenty of depth in the loose forwards.
Excelsior, which made the final last year, will again be right in the mix, although the retirement of Jason Forrest may be a hole to fill.
The North Otago club competition is littered with players from overseas, as the union looks to keep up a healthy club competition with six competitive teams.
Athletic Marist has lost a raft of players but has brought in some from overseas and also promoted some youngsters, including the best from last year's St Kevin's College First XV.
Up country, Kurow is in the rare position of having plenty of players to pick from, so much so that the club will field a side in the president's grade.
Kurow finished fourth last year, and a key man is again former first-class player Ben Nowell, who is also helping out in the coaching ranks.
The Valley club is another who is keen to get more wins than losses this year and will have the bulk of its squad back from last year.
Cameron Rowland has returned from playing for Eastern for a couple of seasons and should bolster the forward pack.
Maheno is another club which is looking to make an impact this year.
It was struggling with numbers a couple of years ago but has come back in the past season and has bolstered its ranks this year.
Games tomorrow have Athletic Marist playing Excelsior at Whitestone Contracting Stadium, Valley hosting Old Boys and Maheno taking on Kurow at Maheno.
