Traditional rugby rivals Southern and Dunedin shared the spoils on the final day of club competition at the University Oval on Saturday.

The "old firm" foes split the premier colts and division two titles between them as a crowd of crosstown supporters fronted to barrack for the city clubs.

The Southern Magpies U21 team crowned an unbeaten season of 15 victories with a 26-12 four-try win over the Dunedin Makos, avenging their finals loss to the same side last year.

Magpies centre and vice-captain Nathan Cargo scored a break-away try, running 60 metres to outpace a pack of chasing Dunedin defenders, to clinch the victory for the Southern side midway through the second half.

The Magpies outfit were reduced to 13 men for the final minutes of the match, but maintained their defensive line to keep the Dunedin Makos tryless in the torrid encounter.

In the second division final, Sep Masoe kicked Dunedin to a 19-12 win to outlast Southern in a match which featured a sole try from the Sharks' Simon Conrad.
