Rugby: SANZAR reserves judgement in Byrnes' misconduct case

SANZAR has reserved judgment in the misconduct case against Adam Byrnes for criticizing New South Wales center Tom Carter, who accused the Melbourne lock of eye-gouging in a Super 15 game.

The rugby body says the case was heard Tuesday.

Byrnes had a 10-week ban for making contact with Carter's eye area in the March 2 game overturned on appeal. He then labeled the center's accusations "a disgrace" for "bringing another player down and potentially ruining their livelihood."

The new charge was laid against Byrnes for breaking rules that don't allow players to publicly criticize other players or referees.
