South Otago High School have got their campaign back on the right track with a hard fought 21-18 win over Otago Boys' High School 2nd XV in the Southern Wide Real Estate 1st XV Competition.

In what South Otago coach Adam Whaanga described as a "very close game", he said each team looked good in different areas.

"We probably had them out wide and they definitely had us in the forwards. In the second half, Otago Boys' played into the wind and they played the rolling maul and the pick and go really well."

He also remarked that his team failed to capitalise on all of their opportunities and Otago Boys' made the most of this.

"We butchered a couple of tries, just last passes going to ground. I think we were up 21-10 with not a long time to go and we badly butchered a try which would have pushed us right out. Otago Boys' scored from it and then they really just played the old forward game against us and played it well."

South Otago clung on to their lead though and emerged victors from a "tough battle".

In the other top six games played today John McGlashan College picked up a bonus point in their 27-12 win over Waitaki Boys' High School, while King's High School were too good for Dunstan High School, running out 48-21 victors.
