The Stormers beat the winless Cheetahs 21-15, with all points coming from penalties in Super 15 rugby on Saturday.
Stormers flyhalf Peter Grant kicked seven penalties at Newlands, while Cheetahs counterpart Naas Olivier responded with four for the visitors. Cheetahs replacement Riaan Viljoen kicked another penalty in the final minute to secure a bonus point for his side.
With regular captain Juan Smith out of the Super 15 after tearing an Achilles' tendon, Olivier took over and gave the Cheetahs a good start with two first-half penalties.
But, the Stormers slowly played themselves into the game.
They put together a few phases and were rewarded with two penalties from the recalled Grant, sending the teams into the halftime locked at 6-6.
As in the first half, the Cheetahs made a strong start to the second period, with wing Rayno Benjamin close to grabbing a try. But the TV official ruled he put a foot in touch as he dived over in the corner.
Both sides failed to break down solid defenses on an extremely hot day in the Cape.
The Stormers looked the stronger unit in the second half, but in the face of the Cheetahs defence, they had to look to the boot of Grant.
The Springboks flyhalf didn't disappoint in his first start for the Stormers since returning from playing club rugby in Japan.
He kicked five out of five penalties in the second half to see his side to victory.
It was a second consecutive Super 15 victory for last year's runners-up, following their win over the Lions last weekend.
The Cheetahs have lost to fellow South African sides the Sharks, the Bulls, and now the Stormers.
