Taieri extended its lead at the top of the Dunedin premier rugby competition today when they scored seven tries to beat Dunedin 41-11 at Peter Johnstone Park.

The star of the Taieri team was openside flanker James Lentjes who scored two tries.

Southern sits in second spot after comfortably beating Harbour 37-22 at Bathgate Park with centre Tei Walden scoring two tries.

Varsity A moved into the top four when it scored seven tries to beat Green Island 51-31 at the University Oval with centre Matt Faddes scoring two tries.

Green Island scored four tries and gained a bonus point for its first competition point of the season.

Bryce Morgan scored three tries when Kaikorai beat Pirates 39-21 at Bishopscourt.

The points in the Gallaway Trophy competition are: Taieri 45, Southern 43, Dunedin 37, Varsity A 32, Alhambra-Union 31. Kaikorai 27, Harbour 22, Zingari-Richmond 18, Pirates 5, Green Island 1.
