Cam Rutherford plays senior cricket for University-Grange and premier rugby for Kaikorai.
The Kaikorai five-eighth is the latest Dunedin rugby player to play 100 premier games for a single club.
Rutherford (25), a Dunedin chartered accountant, does not want to choose between the sports and is happy to play both.
Other players combining rugby and cricket include Craig Sneddon, who plays rugby for Pirates and cricket for Carisbrook-Dunedin, and Southern utility back Ben Patston, who plays senior cricket for the champion Green Island club.
Rutherford grew up in Alexandra and has played cricket for Otago age group teams and for the Central Otago Hawke Cup team.
In rugby, he has played for Otago Colts, Otago B and the development team.
He spent three years in the Otago Boys' High School First XV and was in the cricket First XI for four years.
''I haven't chosen either sport,'' he said.
''I've just toddled along doing both when I can. I haven't committed to one more than the other.''
Rutherford started playing senior cricket at the end of 2006 and had his first game of premier rugby when Kaikorai beat Harbour 14-10 at Watson Park in 2007.
His 50th game was against Pirates at Hancock Park in 2010, when Kaikorai won 35-13.
His favourite moment came in his 100th game when Kaikorai beat Dunedin 22-15 to end the Sharks' run of 18 consecutive wins.
''A hundred games never entered my mind until mid last year when people started making noises about it,'' Rutherford said.
''I never pulled on the boots with the ambition of playing 100 games. It was just one of those things that crept up on me. It's happened and I'm honoured to have done it with Kaikorai.''
Rutherford has simple goals in rugby.
''I'm just looking to perform at club level. If I get selected for higher honours, so be it. My primary focus is to do well for the club.''
He has played at fullback and in the midfield, but prefers the first five-eighth spot.
Kaikorai won its first four games of the season but injuries then took their toll and the Demons have lost the last four.
''At Anzac weekend there were 15 out of our original squad of 30 when we played on the Sunday,'' Rutherford said.
''The colts filled in.''
His toughest opponent in his early days was University A's Chris Noakes with his technical skills.
Later, it was Alhambra-Union winger Karne Hesketh when Rutherford tried to tackle him when playing at fullback.
Rutherford comes from a famous sporting family. Ian, his father, played first-class cricket for Otago, and his uncle (Ken) and cousin (Hamish) have both played for New Zealand.
