Marshall has played 40 matches for the Crusaders and 26 for Tasman in the ITM Cup. He was part of the 2010 world championship-winning New Zealand under-20 team coached by Chiefs coach Dave Rennie.
The 1.83m, 96kg utility back says he's keen to work again with Rennie.
"I'm keen to push for more starting opportunities in my preferred position, so the change was appealing," 23-year-old Marshall said.
All Black Israel Dagg has been preferred at fullback for the Crusaders, with Marshall generally starting on the right wing.
Marshall will move to Hamilton at the conclusion of his ITM Cup campaign with Tasman in late October.
