Taieri scored two tries and 17 points in the final 15 minutes to beat Kaikorai 27-23 at Bishopscourt to retain its seven point lead in the Gallaway Trophy competition.
Taieri still leads the Gallaway Trophy competition with 62 points and is followed by Dunedin 55, Southern 43, Alhambra-Union 43, University A 38, Kaikorai 31, Green Island 24. Harbour 24, Zingari-Richmond 20 and Pirates 16.
Centre Fassiu Fuatai scored two of the students nine tries when Pirates was beaten 57-14 at the University Oval.
A late try by hooker Masiu Akavola gave Zingari-Richmond an upset 20-19 win over Alhambra-Union at the University Oval.
