A sustainable, budget-friendly fundraising event, Upcycle Your Wardrobe, is being held in Rangiora to encourage the reuse of clothing and reduce textile waste going to landfill.

It is being hosted by TimeBank Waimakariri (TBW) on Saturday, April 18, from 11.30am to 2.30pm at John Knox, Rangiora (corner of High and King Sts).

The event also aims to raise funds to support TBW’s community-based initiatives.

Visitors will be able to browse a wide selection of pre-loved clothing, shoes, and accessories, with individually priced items ranging from $5 to $20.

For bargain hunters, a popular ‘‘fill a bag for $5’’ area will also be available.

Alongside the clothing sale, several TBW members will be offering their skills and expertise.

On-site mending and hemming will be available for a koha, helping shoppers give garments a second life.

Michelle Parkes, a TBW member trained in colour and wardrobe consultancy, will provide personalised advice on colour and style choices.

Tracey, another TBW member known for her creative ‘‘thrift flips’’, will be on hand to inspire attendees with ideas for repurposing and transforming clothing into unique, bespoke pieces.

Tea and coffee will be available for $1 a cup, making it an enjoyable and fun outing for families, ‘‘thrifters, and sustainability-minded locals, organisers say.

TimeBank Waimakariri encourages the community to come along, find a bargain, learn something new, and support a more circular approach to fashion.
