Teddy bears are lining the windows of Christchurch households as they take part in a global movement to brighten children's days during the Covid-19 lockdown.

The "We're Going On a Bear Hunt" inspired event originated in London, and thousands of New Zealanders have already taken part.

While families take walks in their neighbourhoods, children are able to spot the teddy bears on windowsills from afar; as long as people maintain physical distancing rules.

Edgeware resident Jennifer McKinnel has joined the movement because she wanted to show her children that "we're all in this together."

"We're all in this together and we all care about each other.

"Other kids have to stay in their houses too but they've done this to make our hearts happy.

"In turn, we've done this to make them happy.

"Sometimes as parents we don't stop and smell the roses; we race about our lives. This lockdown, myself and my husband are going to take the time to reconnect as a family."

A map of teddy bear locations can be found on the "We're Not Scared - NZ Bear Hunt" Facebook page.
