Annette Skinner will not only observe 25 years of the group, she will also celebrate her birthday.
The first meeting was on September 12, 1997 and the social group for retired or semi-retired people was popular from the start.
"It was filled up that very day, there were so many people that wanted to have a Probus."
"We were only allowed 120 [members] because of the fire restriction at the bridge club in Mosgiel," she said.
Even 25 years later, it is still a full house almost every time when the group meets every second Monday of each month.
"It is a lovely club."
An innovation Mrs Skinner established was ensuring people intermingled.
"We have little numbers that we pick up as we go in, so you don’t sit with the same people."
Having different speakers over the years was a high point.
Talks recently included addressing how to vote in the local elections, and a visit from members of St John discussing defibrillators and how a couple had donated an ambulance to be used in Mosgiel.
"The one before that was the fire department — we have all sorts of speakers."
Her birthday would mark turning 83, Mrs Skinner said.
"We will have lunch and a couple of wines or orange juice, and we will have some entertainment."
"It will be a wonderful day, it will be extra special for me because it is my birthday."
