
On Thursday, May 7, Lemalu will present a Masterclass, in conjunction with the Dunedin RSA Choir, from 7pm at St Patrick’s Basilica, 40 Macandrew Rd, South Dunedin. The event is open to the public.
The Vocal Studies professor and Deputy Head of Vocal & Opera at the Royal College of Music, London, will speak about his teaching and will work with up-and-coming young Dunedin vocalists Teddy Finny-Waters (tenor), Kieran Kelly (baritone), Jesse Hanan (tenor) and Ripeka Potiki (alto).
The singers will perform music from the 16th-20th centuries, with accompaniment from Dr Sandra Crawshaw (piano), and Lemalu will give feedback and insights. He will also perform himself.
Tickets at the door, cash only, $20. Seating is limited.
Celebrating Dunedin Voices
Lemalu will also present the “Celebrating Dunedin Voices” concert on Monday, May 11, from 7pm at the Glenroy Auditorium.
The concert will feature special guest appearances by Cantores Choir, the university Capping Sextet, Kieran Kelly, Opera Otago, Otago Boys’ High School Choir, Dunedin RSA Choir, Southern Youth Choir, School of Performing Arts voice students and Terence Dennis.
The concert is supported by the Cleveland Foundation, Kempton Trust and the Otago Daily Times.
