Navigating the tricky science of parenting

If you are anything like me, you probably still feel like a child most of the time.

Yet somehow, here I am, almost 45 and raising two children of my own.

If you’re anything like me, you are absolutely making up this parenting malarkey as you go. Sometimes you get it right and sometimes you don’t.

If you’re anything like me, you will also be aware that the problems our children are facing today are very new (for us), very real (for them) and at times, extremely challenging (for them and us).

And if you’re anything like me, you could use some help.

It dawned on me earlier this year, that if I was searching for some guidance in a few key parenting areas, then maybe other parents were too. I put my thinking cap on to devise a way to share some expert advice with other parents and caregivers on how to navigate the tricky stuff and have the crunchy conversations with our children. And then I put on my producer hat and created The BIG P.E.E. — The BIG Parent.Empowerment.Experience.

The BIG P.E.E. is a full day of talks on Sunday, September 18, that is designed to empower parents and caregivers with practical tools and the skills to have real, frank and courageous conversations with their children about the issues they are facing.

I have pulled together some absolute legends to cover juicytopics such as how to raise body-confident children, unlocking the adolescent brain, the magic of a good night’s sleep and how to keep our children safe online.

The BIG P.E.E. is suitable for all parents, caregivers, educators and people who work with children aged 6 and above. You can come for the whole day, just the morning or afternoon sessions or even just to individual talks.

I slaved for hours building the website so if nothing else, it would mean the world to me if you checked it out — thebigpee.co.nz

As a producer, I am really excited for this. But as a parent, I really need it.

I hope you will join me.
