A group of 20 hard-working adults and teenagers planted more than 130 trees in a public planting day hosted by Save the Otago Peninsula (STOP) on Sunday.

Four young children also contributed by counting out and distributing to the planters the wire pegs needed to fasten down the weed mats and the cages.

These were part of the 1000 trees given by Trees That Count as part of its Greatest Goal crowdfunding campaign, celebrating Aotearoa New Zealand co-hosting the Fifa Women’s World Cup 2023.

The campaign has been made possible thanks to funding from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.

Another public planting day will be held on Saturday — in between the first two matches to be held in Dunedin.

Interested people are invited to meet at 1.30pm at the end of Bacon St, Otago Peninsula. Inquiries, email stopincsoc@gmail.com or text (027) 875-6020. All tools supplied.
