Opera Otago is drawing on the popular New Zealand tradition of a "potluck" for its new show this weekend — Potluck — An Operatic Feast.

The show, which will be staged tonight, Saturday and Sunday, draws on a variety of musical genres, time periods, dance and theatre styles to celebrate the fusion of people, fun and food — with a generous portion of laughter.

Directed by Esther Smith, Potluck — An Operatic Feast follows the comic tale of food "influencer" Chef Harriet, played by MC Harriet Moir, who has moved into a new neighbourhood.

Neighbours begin arriving, expecting a feast, but Chef Harriet actually has no idea how to cook in real life — and so the potluck begins.

As the characters from each song contribute to the meal, their stories are shared and a truly joyous occasion

then unfolds.

The show features an adult chorus, soloists Clare Barton, Erin Connelly-Whyte, Kieran Kelly, Cathy Highton-Sim, Teddy Finney-Waters and Eva Stein, along with the Dunedin Children’s Choir.

The performers will be accompanied by musical director Cameron Monteath.

Potluck — An Operatic Feast will be staged tonight and Saturday, at 6.30pm, and at 2pm on Sunday at Nations Church, King Edward St.
